Sinuses, which are air-filled spaces found in the bone of the head and face can pose serious medical problems when inflamed. The inflammation of the membrane lining of any sinus, results in what is known as the sinusitis illness. Dr. Mindja David, an ear, nose and throat specialist, says sinusitis starts as a result of blockage of the hole into the sinuses. This blockage can occur as a result of an infection, swelling due to a cold or allergy, drying of the mucus, or environmental changes in climate.
